Instructor kitchen / independent working cook (30-38 hours per week)

Who are you?

You are passionate about your profession: working in the kitchen. You love working with honest products, delivering quality and making each plate a work of art. Besides your work, you want to pass on your knowledge, experience and love for the profession to the new generation of kitchen professionals.

What will you do?

A unique challenge becomes available to enthuse aspiring hospitality industry toppers for our beautiful profession. Within the monastery we have a catering offer where the students, instructors and teachers may taste what is going on in the latest trends and current movements in the food field. In this kitchen there is also opportunity for demos and instructional classes. We will also start a sustainability project next school year in which this kitchen will be one of the main springboards.

Furthermore, you are part of our kitchen team that takes care of all F&B activities in the hotel: breakfast, lunch and dinner for hotel and banqueting guests. Within an informal working atmosphere you will continuously contribute to the success of your department. There is room for your own initiatives and ideas. In regulated shifts you work together with an experienced colleague. You help the students, weekdays and weekends to become real professionals. If necessary, you cooperate and enjoy rolling up your sleeves. 

With decisiveness, coaching and motivation, you know how to convey the professional attitude and love for the profession to our students.

For that, you bring:

  • A hospitality related MBO education preferably level 4
  • Diploma in teaching is a plus;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic cooking techniques, ingredients, and menu compositions.
  • Demonstrated work experience in the kitchen;
  • Communication Skills;
  • You are presentable, student- and customer-oriented;
  • You switch easily between your work as a cook and supervising students.
  • You possess a good dose of humor and decisiveness.

Some of the work:

  • You will prepare and lay out the daily activities for the attending students and provide mise-en-place;
  • Prepare dishes and/or dish components according to recipe;
  • Perform quality and presentation checks;
  • Thinking along on proposals for adapting menus, recipes, etc;
  • Elaborate recipe and preparation instructions.
  • You will rotate in the execution of operational work, supported by students.
  • You carry out specialist tasks that cannot be carried out by students.
  • Administrative handling of the operational work.
