Priest robes - Red

Meaning of the color: red

In the Catholic Church, the color Red symbolizes the blood of martyrs and the fire of the Holy Spirit. A priest wears red clothing on Palm Sunday, Pentecost and during the commemoration of martyrs who died by martyrdom. Because of an ancient Byzantine custom, priests also wear red clothing at the funeral of a Pope. Since 1969, red has been worn during Good Friday as a symbol of the shed blood of Jesus Christ during His suffering and death.

The various vestments can be admired in the crypt of the church hall. So are you in the monastery, be sure to take a look at these beautiful vestments.
